About our Federation

The South African Federation was formed in 1914 in Durban and spread to Cape Town, Johannesburg and Pretoria. At the time of its inception and for many years after, South African Lodges were governed as an Administration under the British Federation. As membership and the number of Lodges increased, South Africa eventually achieved Federation status in 1995.

The Federation is governed by the Representative of the Supreme Council - who has the title of Most Puissant Grand Commander (MPGC) assisted by a Triangle of 33° Masons, the Advisory Council and the Federal Convention which is held tri-annually.

There are Craft Lodges in the following centres in South Africa: Durban, Pietermaritzburg, Johannesburg, Pretoria and Cape Town.
