THE MASONIC SECRET
Since its origin, freemasonry has often been considered as a secret organization.
On several occasions in history, when a government has wanted to condemn
it, its secrecy was used as an argument against the organisation. This
was the situation in France during the regime of Vichy, as well as in
Spain under Franco and generally under all totalitarian regimes.
Nowadays some freemasons prefer to remain discrete concerning their membership
to Freemasonry, fearing that sectarian and intolerant people could attempt
to harm them or their family.
Some choose to publicly disclose their own membership, but do not have
the right to reveal the status of their Brothers and Sisters.
The Freemasonry is not a secret, but a discrete organisation. In fact,
rituals, decorations and places of meetings are generally well known due
to numerous, more or less objective books that can be found in public
libraries today.
