HISTORY
Maria Deraismes, a humanist fighting for equal rights for women, together
with Doctor Georges Martin, a French Senator and general Councillor in
Paris, recognized the significance of women in the society and fought
for womens' admission into Freemasonry.
Therefore Maria Deraismes was initiated on the 14 th of January 1882 and
became the first woman to enter a masculine Lodge, symbolizing equality
of masonic initiation.
Eleven years later Maria Deraismes founded the Grande Loge Symbolique
Ecossaise de France, with one lodge called Le Droit Humain. This Lodge
gave birth to the Order of International Co-Freemasonry Le Droit Humain,
symbolizing the will of their members, men and women, to affirm the equality
of men and women and to assert oneself with aims beyond ethnic, cultural
and religious differences.
The Order of International Co-Freemasonry, Le Droit Humain, is today present
in more than 70 countries throughout the world. Its delegates elect a
Supreme Council at the International Convention taking place every five
years. The task of the Supreme Council is to assume leadership, and to
maintain unity and continuity of the Order.
The International headquarters of the Order are in Paris.
